The Annual Health Equity Summit is taking place at the University of Vermont again this fall! From Thursday, September 24th to Friday, the 26th, clinicians, students, community leaders, and others will gather to discuss how to maintain and improve person-centered, equitable healthcare in Vermont and northern New York.
As part of our Healthy Athletes Programs, one of our main missions is to make sure our athletes and community of people with intellectual disabilities are listened to and diagnosed correctly in the healthcare space.
Attached is a link to a podcast episode of Living Healthy Together, uncovering what the Health Equity Summit is like while hearing what representatives have to say on presenting initiatives on working around health disparities for people with IDD.
UVM Medical's Vice Chair, Culture & Belonging, Department of Pediatrics, Jill Rinehart, shares her own personal experience working with Special Olympics and how our own healthy athletes messengers share advice on bettering communication for patients with IDD. Rinehart continues to explain how simple actions can make a big difference; simply communicating directly with a patient with IDD goes a long way in understanding their needs.
