    Special Olympics Vermont seeks volunteers throughout the year at competition and fundraising events to perform important tasks and longer term volunteers such as coaches who can commit to a consistent schedule.   • Who can volunteer?
    Special Olympics is in the business of changing lives, including those of our volunteers! We rely on volunteers to sustain our programs, and we offer rewarding volunteer opportunities for just about anyone. Volunteers must be 15 years of age or accompanied by a guardian.
  • What regulations are related to volunteering?
    Special Olympics classifies volunteers in two categories: Class A Volunteers: Individuals who have regular, close physical contact with athletes; individuals in a position of authority, supervision, or trust with athletes; individuals who handle cash or other assets on behalf of Special Olympics. Class A volunteers are required to complete the Class A volunteer form and online Protective Behaviors training, and are subject to a background check before their volunteer activities can begin. Example: Coach, running a Young Athletes program. Day-Of (Class B) Volunteers: Individuals who volunteer for a competition or fundraising event and have no athlete supervisory or monetary responsibilities. No prior experience is required. Volunteers may pre-register for an event or show up the day of. Volunteers must fill out the volunteer application form. Example: handing out towels at the Penguin Plunge, running a timer for a snowshoe event.

    Yes! Please fill out and submit the Class A Volunteer Application & Background Form. Click here to complete background check form online.
