Over the course of the summer this year, thanks to the hard work and passion of law enforcement officers and community members alike, LETR raised over $17,000 to support our athletes and programs. Let’s take a closer look at how these events made a significant impact on the lives of our athletes and the community.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is the largest grassroots fundraiser for our organization and has raised over 1 Billion dollars globally since 1981, uniting law enforcement, first responders, and military personnel with our mission of fostering the inclusion and acceptance individuals with intellectual disabilities. In Vermont, this partnership has proven to be a powerful force for good, creating awareness and generating vital funds to support our athletes.
Summer Fundraiser Highlights
This summer, LETR organized several engaging fundraising events that brought the community together while promoting inclusivity and support for our athletes. From selling t-shirts for the Torch Run in June to our "Cops on a Rooftop" in early September, these initiatives showcased the dedication of local law enforcement and their commitment to our mission.
1. Torch Run
The season kicked off with the Torch Run! Departments across the state ran the "Flame of Hope" through their communities, which ended with the Final Leg which kicked of our 2024 Summer Games at University of Vermont. As a part of the Torch Run, the sales of our "Guardians of the Flame" t-shirts brought in funds for SOVT!
2. Tip-A-Cop
From May to August, LETR held 5 Tip-a-Cop fundraisers! Two were held at JP's Restaurant and Deli and three were held at Applebee's in South Burlington, Rutland, and Berlin! During these events, law enforcement personnel volunteer their time as servers and hosts. 100% of the “tips” they receive are donated to Special Olympics Vermont!
3. Cops on a Rooftop
In early September, local law enforcement were stationed at several VT Dunkin’ locations greeting patrons and raising funds and awareness for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Vermont! This fundraiser engaged community members with Law Enforcement and SOVT athletes as they grabbed their morning coffee.
4. LETR Coin Drop
In late September, local law enforcement from Manchester, VT collected donations in town as a part of a 'coin drop'. Joined by athletes from our Northshire delegation, this fundraiser connected the people of Manchester, VT with our mission while out and about. We are grateful for everyone who took time to make a donation!
The incredible sum of over $17,000 raised this summer will go directly towards supporting our athletes, funding training programs, and enhancing opportunities for competition. Every dollar raised helps ensure that individuals with intellectual disabilities can experience the joy of sports, build self-confidence, and form lasting friendships.
And there is more fun to come! We continue LETR fundraisers throughout the year! Stay tuned for upcoming events and fundraisers where you can join the fun!
