One of the most emotional moments at the 2017 ESPYs was when former first lady Michelle Obama honored the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. Shriver founded the Special Olympics in 1968 and the organization now stands as the world's largest sports organization serving 5.3 million athletes with intellectual disabilities in 170 countries.

The ESPY (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) Awards recognize individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance during the calendar year preceding a given annual ceremony.
