Spread the Word Day

Spread the Word Day is an annual awareness day held on the first Wednesday in March that invites people, schools, and communities to take a pledge to promote inclusion and respect for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The campaign originally began in 2009 as Spread the Word to End the Word, encouraging people to stop using the hurtful “R-word,” and has since grown into a broader movement focused on fostering inclusive language and actions year-round. Participants are encouraged to make small commitments toward inclusive behavior, challenge others to join, and help build communities where everyone feels welcomed and valued.
